Function: - auditory receptor cells Structure: - the organ of Corti contains 1 inner layer & 3 outer layers of hair cells Innervation: - innervated by the cochlear nerve Pathology: - loud noises, toxic drugs, viral infections gradually deplete the number cochlear hair cells, leading to hearing loss [2] - cochlear stem cells do not replace this loss [2]
