guaifenesin/phenylpropanolamine (Entex LA, Ami-Tex LA)
Indications:
1) symptomatic relief of respiratory conditions with tenacious mucus plugs & congestion
a) sinusitis
b) pharyngitis
c) bronchitis
d) asthma
2) adjunctive therapy in serous otitis media
Contraindications:
1) severe hypertension
2) concurrent administration MAO inhibitor
Dosage:
1) 1 tab or 10 mL PO every 6 hours.
2) Entex LA: 1 tab PO every 12 hours. Entex LA (sustained release):
- guaifenesin 400 mg & phenylpropanolamine HCl 75 mg
Adverse effects:
- not common (1-10%)
- sympathomimetic effects (see phenylpropanolamine)
