GTP-binding regulatory protein beta-3; transducin beta chain 3 (GNB3)

Function: - G-beta & G-gamma chains are required for a) GTPase activity of heterotrimeric G proteins b) replacement of GDP by GTP c) G protein-effector interaction Structure: - G proteins are composed of 3 units G-alpha, G-beta & G-gamma - belongs to the WD repeat G protein beta family - contains 7 WD repeats Expression: nearly ubiquitously expressed Polymorphism: - a single-nucleotide polymorphism, rs1047776 in GNB3, seems to accelerate cognitive impairment in men receiving androgen deprivation therapy [4]
