Distinguish from fructosamine (isoglucosamine) in serum
Indications:
- assessment of glycemic control in diabetes mellitus when hemoglobinopathy or hemolytic anemia is suspected for an incorrect hemoglobin A1c [6] (MKSAP19)
- see glycemic control
Clinical significance:
- values reflect the average blood glucose for the preceding 2-3 weeks
- risk of misdiagnosing poor glycemic control ~10%, even in a selected population [5]
