glycosuria

The presence of abnormal quantities of glucose in the urine. Normally only trace amounts of glucose are found in the urine. Etiology: - glycosuria is generally associated with diabetes, but may occur with renal tubular disease & other conditions Pathology: - glucose generally appears in the urine with plasma glucose > 180-200 mg/dL - glomerular blood flow, renal tubular reabsorption, & urine flow also determine appearance of glucose in the urine - not always concommitant hyperglycemia
