glomangioma; glomus tumor; glomuvenous malformation

A tumor of the glomus body. Pathology: - smooth-muscle-like glomus cells in the tunica media surrounding distended vascular lumens Genetics: -> mutations in glomulin gene Clinical manifestations: 1) exquisitely tender subungual papule or nodule 2) paroxysmal painful attacks, especially elicited by exposure to cold 3) generally occur as solitary subungual tumors 4) may occur as multiple papules or nodules (glomangiomas) a) glomangioma do not occur underneath the nail b) may occur anywhere on the skin surface c) largely vascular rather than solid as a solitary lesions 5) may also be found on the tympanic membrane (glomus tympanicum)
