glenohumeral joint; shoulder joint; glenohumeral/humeral articulation
A ball-&-socket synovial joint between the head of the humerus & the glenoid cavity of the scapula. The joint is loosely constructed & permits a wide range of movement; however the mobility makes the joint relatively unstable.
Protected above by the coracoid process & the acromial process of the scapula.
Coracohumeral & glenohumeral ligaments help to maintain the integrity of the joint.
Pathology:
- glenohumeral joint pain is aggravated by any movement of the shoulder
