Pathology: 1) germ cell neoplasm & gestational trophoblastic tumor 2) highly malignant tumor with high propensity to hemorrhage 3) microscopic pathology: - sheets of trophoblastic cells without chorionic villi that invade surrouding tissues and vascular spaces - cellular mixture of syncytiotrophoblast, cytotrophoblast & intermediate trophoblast - central hemorrhage and necrosis common - strong immunoreactivity for HCG 4) metastases: - lung 80% - vagina 30% - pelvis 20% - brain 10% - liver 10% Genetics: - implicated genes MGAT4A
