GDNF family receptor alpha-3; GFR-alpha-3; glial derived neurotrophic factor [GDNF] receptor alpha-3(GFRA3)

Function: - receptor for the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor, ARTN (artemin) - mediates the artemin-induced autophosphorylation & activation of the RET receptor tyrosine kinase Structure: - N-glycosylated - glycosylphosphatidylinositol-linked cell surface receptor - belongs to the GDNFR family Compartment: cell membrane; lipid-anchor, GPI-anchor Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - widely expressed in adult & fetus which exhibit a similar pattern - essentially not expressed in the central nervous system, but highly expressed in several sensory & sympathetic ganglia of the peripheral nervous system - moderate expression in digestive & urogenital systems with high expression in stomach & appendix - low expression in several glandular tissues - very low or no expression in the hematopoietic system
