gastrocolic fistula

fistula connecting the stomach & the colon Etiology: - gastric cancer - colorectal cancer - peptic ulcer (less common) - use of glucocorticoids or NSAIDs increase risk [1] Pathology: - fecal matter passes from the colon into the stomach Clinical manifestations: - abdominal pain - diarrhea - weight loss - foul eructation, fecal halitosis - feculent vomiting Radiology: - barium enema Management: - surgival resection of the fistula tract [2] - post-operative mortality as high as 25% [2] - prognosis: < 10 years
