Origin: by 2 heads from the lateral & medial condyles of the femur Insertion: -> with soleus by the calcaneal tendon (Achilles tendon) into the lower 1/2 of the posterior surface of the calcaneus Action: plantar flexion of foot Innervation: tibial nerve Notes: One of the muscles that crosses 2 joints (knee & ankle).
