Garden Classification of hip fracture

Classification: Type 1: incomplete Type 2: complete - no displacement 1) internal fixation - screws/pins 2) mobilize rapidly, out of bed on post-operative day 1 3) usually weight-bearing as tolerated Type 3: complete, partial displacement Type 4: complete, total displacement 1) open reduction, internal fixation if possible for patients < 70 years of age, pins/screws 2) weight-bearing determined by the surgeon - varies from full to partial to toe touch initially
