ganglioside GQ1b Ab in serum
Indications:
anti GQ1b IgG antibody titer elevated with:
- Fisher syndrome (most common)
- Guillain-Barre syndrome
- Bickerstaff brainstem encephalitis
Clinical significance:
- disrupts Schwann cells
- may be triggered by
a) Campylobacter jejuni
b) Mycoplasma pneumoniae
c) celiac disease
