GALOP syndrome
Gait disorder, Autoantibody, Late-age Onset, Polyneuropathy.
Epidemiology:
- average age 70 years
Clinical manifestations:
1) development over 2-15 years
2) ataxia generally mild
a) slow ambulation
b) frequent falls, particularly backward
3) polyneuropathy
a) moderate distal weakness may be present
b) sensory neuropathy in stocking pattern
4) positive Romberg test
Laboratory:
- ELISA for IgM reactive with central myelin antigen
- GALOP Ab in serum/plasma
- GALOP IgM in serum/plasma
Management:
1) intravenous immune globulin may be of benefit
2) cyclophosphamide may be of benefit
