ephelis (freckle)
Etiology:
- manifestation of dermatoheliosis (skin aging)
Histology: increased pigment in epidermis
Clinical manifestations:
1) 2-5 mm macule
2) tan in color
3) distribution: sun-exposed areas
4) color darkens following sun-exposure
Management:
- no treatment is generally indicated
- consider biopsy if diameter > 1 cm or shape is irregular [3]
