fovea centralis retinae

A depression in the center of the macula retinae where only cones are present & blood vessels are lacking*. The fovea is the area of most acute vision; it projects to the tip of the occipital pole. The center of the fovea is the thinnest part of the retina. * referred to capillary-free zone
