follicle center lymphoma, grade I (follicular small cleaved cell lymphoma)

Low-grade lymphoma. Classification: 1) working formulation -> follicular, predominantly small cleaved cell 2) Rappaport -> nodular, poorly differentiated lymphocytic 3) Lukes-Collins -> FCC*, small cleaved 4) Kiel -> centroblastic-centrocytic lymphoma, follicular * FCC: follicular center cells Epidemiology: -> most common form of follicular lymphoma Pathology: 1) neoplastic B-cells 2) small, cleaved cells within normal germinal centers 3) slightly larger than normal lymphocytes 4) scantly cytoplasm 5) irregular, cleaved nuclear contour* -> prominent clefts, indentations, linear infoldings 6) course & condensed nuclear chromatin 7) indistinct nucleoli 8) mitoses are infrequent 9) may be scattered large cleaved or non-cleaved cells within the nodule (< 20% of cells) * distinguishing feature of neoplastic cells
