feline leukemia virus subgroup C receptor-related protein 2; Ca+2-chelate transporter (CCT, FLVCR2, C14orf58)
Function:
1) transporter specific for a Ca+2-chelator complex
2) growth & Ca+2 metabolism
3) acts as an importer of heme
4) FLVCR2 is a blood-brain barrier choline transporter responsible for the most of the choline uptake into the brain [2]
Structure:
- belongs to the major facilitator superfamily, Feline leukemia virus subgroup C receptor (TC 2.A.1.28.1) family
Compartment: cell membrane; multi-pass membrane protein
Expression:
- expressed in hematopoietic tissues
- fetal liver, spleen, lymph node, thymus, leukocytes & bone marrow
- expressed in non-hematopoietic tissues
- brain, placenta, lung, liver & kidney
- expressed in acidophil cells of the pituitary that secrete growth hormone & prolactin
Pathology:
- defects FLVCR2 associated with: proliferative vasculopathy & hydranencephaly syndrome
