flutamide (Eulexin, Niftholide)
Tradename: Eulexin.
Indications:
- used in combination with LHRH agonist for treatment of metastatic prostate cancer
- hair growth restoration ?
Contraindications:
- Pregnancy category X
- significant liver disease
Dosage: Capsule: 125 mg
Pharmacokinetics:
- Not eliminated by hemodialysis
Monitor:
- serum ALT & serum AST baseline, monthly for 4 months, then periodically (every 6 months) [2,3]; discontinue if serum AST or serum ALT > 3x upper limit of normal despite recheck
Adverse effects:
1) common (> 10%)
- impotence, nausea/vomiting, hot flashes, diarrhea
2) less common (1-10%)
- anorexia, gynecomastia, numbness in extremities
3) uncommon (< 1%)
- hepatitis, hypertension, edema, drowsiness, nervousness, confusion
