flurbiprofen (Ocufen)
Ophthalmic agent: (Ocufen)
Indications:
1) inhibition of intra-operative miosis
2) treatment of post-operative inflammation following cataracts surgery
3) treatment of cystoid macular edema
Dosage:
- 1 drop every 30 minutes, beginning 2 hours before surgery (4 drops to each eye)
Ophthalmic: 0.03% (5 mL). (Ocufen)
Adverse effects:
1) common (> 10%)
- slowing of corneal healing, irritation, itching, burning
2) less common (1-10%)
- redness of eyes (hyperemia)
3) other
- blurred vision
- toxic amblyopia
- systemic effects of ocular absorption may occur
Interactions
drug adverse effects of NSAIDs
monitor with non steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSIADs)
