flexor pronator muscles
Location: anterior compartment
- separated from the extensor muscles by the radius & ulna.
Arranged in 4 layers & divided into 2 groups.
1) Superficial group of 5 muscles:
- pronator teres
- flexor carpi radialis
- palmaris longus
- flexor carpi ulnaris
- flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
- Superficials get attached by a common flexor tendon from the medial epicondyle
2) Deep group of 3 muscles:
- flexor digitorum profundus (FDP)
- flexor pollicis longus
- pronator quadratus
The five superficials cross the elbow joint; the three deep muscles do not.
