flagellum

A whip-like organ of locomotion consisting of 9 double peripheral microtubules & 2 central microtubules. It is often connected to the cell body or nucleus by a fiber, the rhizoplast. It is characteristic of Mastigophora, but also occurs in spermatozoa.
