Most fire extinguishers provide 60-90 seconds of spray in order to extinguish small fires or to slow or contain larger fires.
There are 3 types for different types of fires:
- Type A: ordinary combustibles, i.e. wood, paper, plastics
- Type B: flammable liquids
- Type C: electrical fires
- Type ABC: all of the above
The acronym PASS is remembered to operate a fire extinguisher
- Pull the pin
- Aim hose at base of fire
- Squeeze the handle
- Sweep spray across base of fire
