fibroadenoma

The most common benign breast neoplasm. Epidemiology: - commonly occurs in young women in their teens & 20's Clinical manifestations: 1) generally smooth, nontender & freely mobile 2) the lesions continue to grow Radiology: - initial evaluation should include ultrasound, since mammograms are generally unreliable in young women Differential diagnosis: 1) cystosarcoma phyllodes 2) carcinoma Management: - surgical excision if > 2 cm - biopsy-proven fibroadenomas < 2 cm should not be routinely removed [2]
