ficolin-3; collagen/fibrinogen domain-containing lectin 3 p35; collagen/fibrinogen domain-containing protein 3; Hakata antigen (FCN3, FCNH, HAKA1)

Function: - may function in innate immunity through activation of the lectin complement pathway - Ca+2-dependent & GlcNAc-binding lectin - has affinity with galNAc, GlcNAc, D-fucose, as mono/oligosaccharide & lipopolysaccharides from S typhimurium & S minnesota - interacts with MASP1 & MASP2 - does not interact with fibronectin, elastin or zymosan Structure: - the N-terminus is blocked - homopolymer; disulfide-linked - may be an octadecamer consisting of an elementary trimer unit - belongs to the ficolin lectin family - contains 1 collagen-like domain - contains 1 fibrinogen C-terminal domain Compartment: - secreted - found in blood plasma, bronchus, alveolus & bile duct Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - expressed in liver & lung - in liver it is produced by bile duct epithelial cells & hepatocytes - in lung it is produced by both - ciliated bronchial epithelial cells - type II alveolar epithelial cells Pathology: - defects in FCN3 are the cause of ficolin 3 deficiency
