Function: - connects the peritoneal cavity with the uterine cavity - captures the oocyte after ovulation & transports sperm from the uterus to the fertilization site in the ampulla (mid portion of the tube) - the fallopian ampulla serves as the physiologic site for a) final gamete maturation b) oocyte fertilization c) early embryonic development - the oocyte (ferilized or not) passes into the uterine cavity
