factor IX complex
Tradenames: Konyne 80, Proplex T.
Indications:
1) to control bleeding in patients with factor IX deficiency (hemophilia B or Christmas disease)
2) prevention of control of bleeding in hemophilia A patients with inhibitors to factor VIII
Contraindications:
1) liver disease with signs of intravascular coagulation or fibrinolysis
2) not for use in patients with factor VII deficiency
Caution:
1) use with caution in patients with liver dysfunction
2) risk of viral transmission
Dosage:
1) individualize dosage (IV)
2) based upon factor IX units
Single dose vials with various units.
Adverse effects:
1) not common (1-10%)
- transient fever/chills, headache, flushing, tingling following rapid administration
2) uncommon (< 1%)
- disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), thrombosis following high doses, somnolence, urticaria, tightness in chest & neck
Drug interactions:
- increased incidence of thrombosis with aminocaproic acid
