estrone (E1)
The major estrogen after menopause. Produces by adrenal & in adipose tissue. Metabolite of 17-beta estradiol. It is a less potent estrogen than estradiol.
Adverse effects:
1) increased levels of:
a) renin substrate
b) sex hormone-binding globulin
c) thyroxine-binding globulin
d) cortisol-binding globulin
2) hypertension
3) gallbladder disease
4) thrombosis
5) hepatotoxicity
