The most common estrogens tested are:
1) estrone [E1]
2) estradiol [E2]
3) estriol [E3]
Increases:
- ovarian tumors producing estrogens
- granolosa cell tumors
- theca cell tumors
- testicular tumors
- some adrenal cortex tumors
- adrenal hyperplasia
- chorioepithelioma
Decreases:
- ovarian dysgenesis
- primary ovarian failure
- hypopituitarism
- adrenal insufficiency
- menopause
- anorexia nervosa
- psychogenic stress
- GnRH deficiency
Methods:
- radioimmunoassay (RIA)
Specimen:
- serum, freeze immediately
