- intra-abdominal infections
Contraindications:
- not recommended for urinary tract infections
Pharmacokinetics:
- metabolized by liver
Dosage adjustment in renal failure:
- none
Antimicrobial activity:
- includes many highly resistant gram negatives
- some carbapenem-resistant organisms
- Acinetobacter
- MRSA
- VRE
- anaerobes
- does not cover Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Adverse effects:
- gastrointestinal side effects predominate
- infusion site reactions
Mechanism of action:
- tetracycline derivative, with broad antibacterial spectrum
