Indications: 1) prevention of laceration at the time of delivery 2) facilitation of delivery Contraindications: - no benefit to routine episitomy [3] Procedure: - mediolateral episiotomy is generally preferred over midline episiotomy [4] Complications: 1) increases risk for infection 2) increases risk of hemorrhage [2]
