Function: - biotransformation enzyme that catalyzes hydrolysis of arene & aliphatic epoxides to less reactive & more water soluble dihydrodiols by the trans addition of water cis-stilbene oxide + H2O (+)-(1R,2R)-1,2-diphenylethane-1,2-diol Structure: belongs to the peptidase S33 family Compartment: microsome membrane Expression: found in liver Pathology: - genetic variation in EPHX1 may be associated with susceptibility to preeclampsia - defects in EPHX1 are a cause of familial hypercholanemia
