Non-pathogenic intestinal flagellates, infrequently seen.
Laboratory:
1) trophozoites
a) measure 4-10 um in length, generally 8-9 um
b) oval-shaped
c) jerking motility
d) one nucleus, generally not visible in unstained specimens
e) 2 anterior, 1 posterior flagella
f) one side of body flatted
2) cysts
a) measure 4-10 um in length, generally 6-8 um
b) elongated or oval
c) 1-4 nuclei, 2 at opposite ends of the cysts, not visible on unstained specimens
