ECS complex; elonginB/C-CUL2/5-SOCS-box protein complex; ECS E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex
Function:
- E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex
- mediates ubiquitination of target proteins
- may serve as a rigid scaffold in the complex
- may contribute to catalysis through positioning of the substrate & the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme
- E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity is dependent on neddylation of the cullin subunit & is inhibited by association of the deneddylated cullin with TIP120A/CAND1 (putative)
- functional specificity of the ECS complex depends on the substrate recognition component
Structure:
- subunits include CUL2, elongin BC (TCEB1 & TCEB2), RBX1 & a variable substrate-specific adapter
