Etiology:
- see purpura
Clinical manifestations:
- purplish patch secondary to extravasation of blood into the skin
- ecchymoses differ from petechiae only in size
- ecchymoses are > 3 mm in diameter; petechiae are smaller
Notes: may be synonym for purpura
