Function: - cell-surface glycoprotein with a role in immunoadhesion - mediates in the adhesion of blood neutrophils in cytokine-activated endothelium through interaction with PSGL1/SELPLG - may have a role in capillary morphogenesis - interacts with PSGL1/SELPLG through the sialyl Lewis X epitope; PSGL1 sulfation appears not to be required for this interaction - recognizes sialylated fucosylated ligand (CD65) on leukocytes - mediates binding to leukocytes in: a) inflammatory sites b) atherosclerosis c) tumor cell adhesion in metastasis Structure: - belongs to the selectin/LECAM family - contains 1 C-type lectin domain - contains 1 EGF-like domain - contains 6 Sushi (CCP/SCR) domains Compartment: membrane Expression: - cytokine induced endothelial cells Polymorphism: - polymorphism Ser-149 -> Arg-149 is associated with a higher risk of coronary artery disease (CAD)
