dynactin
Function:
- a large macromolecular complex required for the cytoplasmic dynein-driven movement of organelles along microtubules
- the dynein-dynactin interaction is probably functions in axonal transport of vesicles & organelles
Structure:
- dynactin is composed of 10 distinct polypeptides of 150, 135, 62, 50, 45, 42, 37, 32, 27, & 24 kD, with a combined mass of 10 million daltons
Compartment:
- membrane, centrosome, kinetochore, mitotic spindle
- localizes to punctate cytoplasmic structures & to the centrosome during interphase, & to kinetochores & to spindle poles throughout mitosis
- colocalizes with dynein to the cleavage furrow & to midbody of dividing cells
