Dutch Randomized Endovascular Aneurysm Management trial (DREAM trial)
Design:
- 345 patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm > 5 cm in diameter randomized to endovascular vs open repair
primary endpoint: 30 day operative mortality or moderate-severe complication
Results:
- primary endpoint reached in 24% of open repair vs 18% of endovascular repair patients
- procedure related mortality was 4.6% in open repair group vs 1.2% in endovascular repair group
- cardiac & pulmonary complications occurred significantly more often after open repair
- vascular complications occurred more often after endovascular repair
