ductus arteriosus (Botallo's duct)

Development: - a fetal blood vessel connecting the left pulmonary artery with the descending aorta just below the origin of the left subclavian artery - generally, it closes at birth, & within the 1st 2 months of life, degenerates into a cord, the ligamentum arteriosum Pathology: - occasionally, the ductus fails to close resulting in a surgically correctable disorder, patent ductus arteriosus
