DPTA/hippuran renal scan; radionuclide renal clearance scan
Indications:
1) assessment of post-transplant kidney
2) renal donor evaluation*
3) urinary obstruction (pre & post furosemide)
4) renal infarct (presence or absence of blood flow)
5) gold standard for measuring GFR & renal plasma flow [2]
* split renal-function study evaluates function of each kidney
Disadvantages:
- expensive
- lack of widespread availability
- radioactivity exposure
- operator technical difficulties
