1,4-dithiothreitol; 1,4-dimercapato-2,3-butanediol (DTT, Cleland's reagent)

Used in vitro to reduce protein disulfides to thiols (cysteine residues). Product of dithiothreitol reduction of protein disulfides is a 6 membered ring, thus driving the reaction in the direction of protein thiols.
