Function: - testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (stanolone) in the pilosebaceous unit of hair follicles through the action of testosterone 5-alpha reductase - dihydrotestosterone is the active androgen in hair follicles - metabolized in the pilosebaceous unit to 3-alpha-androstenediol glucuronide
