Tradename: Nupercainal. Indications: 1) symptomatic relief of discomfort associated with hemorrhoids & perianal itching or irritation 2) relief of minor pains due to burns or irritation Contraindications: pregnancy-category ? safety in lactation ? Dosage: 1) apply 1% ointment or 0.5% cream every 12 hours, PRN or after bowel movement 2) 1 suppository PRN up to a max of 6/24 hours 3) burns/irritation: a) apply to affected area b) max dose 30 gm in 24 hours Mechanism of action: 1) blocks Na+ channels 2) inhibition of neuronal impulses
