Clinical manifestations: 1) impairment in the ability to plan & carry out sensory & motor tasks 2) children appear out of sync with their environment 3) poor balance & coordination 4) clumsiness 5) vision problems 6) perception difficulties 7) emotional & behavioral problems (immature behavior) 8) difficulty with reading, writing, & speaking 9) poor social skills 10) poor posture 11) poor short-term memory 12) may be of average or above average intelligence Management: 1) treatment is symptomatic & supportive 2) occupational therapy 3) speech therapy -> cueing or other forms of communication such as using pictures & hand gestures 4) many children with the disorder require special education 5) prognosis a) lifelong disorder b) many individuals learn to compensate for their disabilities
