Dose: 1) 0.1-0.2 units/kg SC qPM 2) 10 units SC QD-BID 100 units/mL 10 mL vial 3 mL disposable FlexPen Do NOT mix with other insulins can be stored in prefilled syringes for up to 42 days, (contrast with glargine) Pharmacokinetics: 1) long-acting insulin analog like glargine (Lantus) 2) peak 6-8 hours 3) duration: dose-dependent; up to 24 hours 4) binds albumin Adverse effects: - less acidic than Lantus, thus burns less on injection Notes: - hypoglycemia & glycemic control no better with detemir than with neutral protamine Hagedorn insulin [2]
