Pharmacology: Tradenames: Off, Repel, Cutter Indications: mosquito repellent (best on market 2002) Dosage: 1) apply to skin & clothes [2] 2) 10-50% most adults [2] 3) 10% for children [2] a) BID 6 months-2 years b) TID > 2 years of age 4) up to 30% for children QD > 2 months of age [3] Ultrathon: polymer form contains 25% DEET, lasts up to 8 hours Avoid DEET/sunscreen combinations, sunscreen needs more frequent application -> mean protection until time of 1st bite concentration minutes until 1st bite (mean of 15) 24% 302 20% 234 6.6% 112 4.8% 88 Adverse effects: 1) excellent safety record after 40 years of use 2) excessive use associated with neurotoxicity [2] -> limit concentration in children (see dosage)
