declarative (explicit) memory

Generally conscious memory. It is limbic-dependent until consolidated, but not after consolidation. Thus limbic lesions (medial temporal lobe) impair the acquisition of new declarative memory, but not the retention of old declarative memories. Events = episodic or autobiographical memory Facts = semantic memory (factual knowledge)
