Function: 1) regulatory subunit for CDC7, activates kinase activity 2) required for entry into S phase 3) CDC7-DBF4 selectively phosphorylates MCM2 subunit of chromatin-associated MCM complex 4) initiation of DNA replication during cell cycle 5) forms a complex with CDC7 6) interacts with MEN1, MCM2, ORC2, ORC4 & ORC6 Structure: - contains 2 BRCT domains - contains 1 DBF4-type Zn+2 finger Compartment: nucleus Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - expressed in testis, thymus, most cancer cells lines - induced in G1 phase at low level, increased during G1-S phase & remains high during S phase & G2-M phase
