cytotoxic (suppressor) T cell (CD8+, CTL)
Characteristics:
- CD3, CD8+ cells.
- development of immature T-cell precursors (thymocytes) to CD8 T-cells correlates with their T-cell receptor specificity for major histocompatibility complex class 1 molecules.
- absence of ZNF67 expression results in CD8+ cell commitment.
CD8+ T-cells are involved in immune response to intracellular antigens & in cutaneous cytotoxic disorders.
Normally 30% of circulating T-cells.
Pool size: 1 x 10E11, 1/2 life = 167 days
Pathology:
- viral antigens can lead to misguided activation of CD8+ T-cells & development of lymphoproliferative disorders [2]
