keratin, type 1 cytoskeletal 10; cytokeratin-10; CK-10; keratin-10; K10 (KRT10 KPP)

Function: - cytokeratin-10 is generally associated with cytokeratin-1 Structure: - heterotetramer of 2 type 1 & 2 type 2 keratins - belongs to the intermediate filament family Expression: - cytokeratin-1 & cytokeratin-10 are expressed in keratinizing squamous epithelium & squamous cell carcinomas - seen in all suprabasal cell layers including stratum corneum Polymorphism: - number of alleles are known that mainly differ in the Gly-rich region (positions 490-560) Pathology: - defects in KRT10 are a cause of: a) bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma b) ichthyosis annular epidermolytic c) epidermal nevus epidermolytic hyperkeratotic type
